Introduction to some of the words of Allah
I will start with a prayer that Muslims say several times a day before they start to do something important.
"I seek refuge to Allah from Satan the degraded, the outcast. And I start by the name of Allah, the Beneficient, the Merciful."
In this talk the following key words will be used to explain the message of Islam to you.
The words are;
In relation with creation:
Angel, Satan, Human Spirit, Language and Command
In relation with Development of human beings:
Messenger, Book, Knowledge, Intellect, Justice, Reality
Nation, Religion, Traditions, Culture
Also the word "will" will be used in relation to these. You may observe, it holds them together and makes them do work as if without it they are lifeless.
But these words might be used somewhat different than you heard them to be used. This difference is very important, it is not accidential, rather it will help you to identify a different culture which has different traditions and institutions and has a different way-of-judgement, the religion called Islam.
Also in the use of these words you will notice a lot of similarities that you are familiar with. This is because we are all human beings and these words are flourished throughout our historic cultural development. They are part of our language. If you observe the use of these key words you could see the differences and the similarities among different way-of-judgements and cultures and understand them without getting confused.
If I am capable to give you a talk like this today, it is because of the rich heritage from our prophets, our saints, our thinkers, our martyres that we have inherited through the Mercy Of Allah. so may Allah be pleased with their deeds.
And I thank to Xxxxx School Administrators for their inviting me to give a talk at this seminar,
Now I will be telling you the story that most probably you have already heard from different sources, but I will be telling it in a certain order.
Here it is: It is revealed by Allah to His Prophet and recorded in the book called Koran about thirteen hundred years ago:
When God said to the Angels: I will make a viceroy, a represantative on earth, after the completion of its creation.
Angels said: Will you put there someone who will bring injustice and disorder while we praise you.
Allah said: I know something about this new creature that you do not know. So when I give him form and blew into him from my Spirit, then prostrate for him!
Then Allah created the human and taught him names of things, a primitive language.
He asked the Angels to name things.
Angels said: We have no knowledge except what you taught us. So he asked the human to tell their names and the human told the names.
And Allah said didn't I tell you that I know the secrets of the heavens and the earth, so prostrate for the human, all of you.
All the Angels prostrated except Lucifer, he refused with pride and didn't obey the command of Allah. Lucifer was critical about the honour given to the human.
When he is asked why he refused. He said: I am better than him, you created me from fire and him from earth.
So he has been rejected from his post and degraded. But he asked for permission from Allah to deviate and mislead everyone od humans and ambush and attack them from every direction to achieve his goal.
Allah gave him this permission with reservation that he won't be effective on Allah's righteous subjects, declaring him the open enemy of humankind, Satan.
When Allah told the human "Live in heaven but do not go near that tree."
Satan told the human and his wife: "Allah forbade you from that tree,
only to prevent you from becoming Angels and immortals and have a
kingdom that never becomes old".
The story ends.
It sounds like a simple trick from Satan but I'm afraid it still works.
Whose Parent's wouldn't be tempted to say their child "Be an Angel!" anyway.
The question is:
Should this human prefer to be an Angel?
If we ask this question to a huge computer which we may name "the Intellect" with the above story, it could remind us that:
According to the nerrative
Human is demonstrated that he/she is performing better than Angels. Therefore there is no point for Human's willing to become an Angel unless he/she is ready to fail like Satan did.
As I understand form the message;
After this first test the humans sent down to earth to re-prove their excellence and superiority against the challenge of Satan and regain their status as viceroy of Allah.
In the beginning Allah by his generocity and mercy sent messengers and messages to equip human beings against the plots of Satan, and guide them in their practice of excellent performance as the viceroy of Allah. Through his messengers and messages he supplied humans new words teaching them how to use the intellect and urging them to use it. And explained how He made things available to their use and adviced them about the right way to be able to realize their role as viceroy.
When humans started forming tribes and nations He taught them more words advising them to compete in leading humans rightly and in harmony with reality which they have to discover by knowledge via sciences. And then establish justice among themselves and other cultures such as animal cultures etc.
Allah also reminded them saying "We created them and We strengthened their structure and when We will We can replace them, bringing others like them in their place".
As I understand Allah taught humans names and then other forms of words so that their language developed to use the intellect more efficiently in such a way that today by using these words we can pray, give orders and obey them, report an event, describe the appearance of an object, form and test hypothesis, write a computer program, present the results of an experiment in tables and diagrams, make up a story, play act, sing, guess riddles, tell a joke, translate from one language to another, ask questions, think, greet, etc.
When humans reached to a level of maturity like today in their utilization of the intellect they do not need any more messages and messengers, because now they are capable to find the right way with all the material available, and by the support of their knowledge via sciences and by using the intellect. So, today, for humans to choose the right way is not a matter of lack of knowledge or confusions about the message of Allah, but it can only be a lack of will. If they have the will, with all the available material and the support of their knowledge via sciences and using the intellect they really function like a human representing the majesty, the justice, the mercy and the power of Allah.
But then Allah says "Yet, they will not unless Allah wills."
